SF Department of Elections Poll Workers

Help your community and earn up to $295 by serving as a poll worker on Election Day!

You can serve as an adult poll worker if you:

  • Meet all California voter registration requirements*

  • Can complete online or in-person training

  • Can serve 6 a.m. until about 10 p.m. on Election Day

*If you meet all requirements except citizenship but are a legal permanent resident, you can still be a poll worker.

You can serve as a high school student poll worker if you:

  • Will be at least 16 years old on Election Day

  • Have a grade point average of at least 2.5

  • Have permission from your parent or guardian

  • Can complete online or in-person training

  • Can serve 6 a.m. until about 9 p.m. on Election Day

Benefits to serving as a poll worker:

  • Stipend between $225 and $295

  • Experience for your resume or college

  • Learning about how elections work

Duties of serving as a poll worker:

  • Help set up your site at 6 a.m.

  • Help voters between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

  • Help close down your site at 8 p.m.

  • Protect election integrity and security
